Approach

Anna Netrebko has reigned supreme in the opera world for more than two decades. She is a regular at the Metropolitan Opera and she has performed no fewer than twenty-two roles on its famous stage and appeared in fifteen of its “Live in HD” transmissions to cinemas worldwide, the most by any artist.

With nearly 400,000 monthly listeners on Spotify and an ever increasing audience via IDAGIO, Instagram and Apple Music, Anna needed a brand identity that would allow her to enter into the popular mainstream as the very icon of a modern opera singer.

Result

Working closely with 21C Media Group (based in New York) it was clear that Anna Nebtrebko needed a modern, flexible, and impactful brand that could be utilised across media channels, web site designs and print to name a few. I ran a number of brand workshops and focus groups which resulted in a brand that can adapt depending on the environment. Several versions of the logo were created for different uses, including a cyrillic version.

The new brand identity was launched in 2021 and was showcased on her latest Album, Amata Dalle Tenebre which also launched in November that same year. 

 

Logo

The logo marque conveys a simple, confident and structural feel whilst maintaining an element of elegance. The uppercase letterforms have a stencil cut detail which display simple modern cut lines, whilst serifs were incorporated to the bottom of the A and N letters to help with legibility and give a gentle nod to Anna’s career longevity, which spans more than 25 years.

Creating & Planning

The branding process also included many stages; from branding workshops down to minor iterations on the development of the logo and focusing on the most appropriate typefaces. Being able to work so closely with the client meant that substantial exploration could be done and decisions were made with confidence.
